Maryland Report on Child Sex Abuse
Reports of sexual abuse of students by teachers, coaches, and other school officials have assigned Maryland schools a terrible reputation.
Examples of Maryland school abuse include:
- The conviction of a middle school substitute teacher who sent a student sexually charged text messages.
- An instructional assistant at a Charles County high school was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the sexual abuse of minors;
- A shocking case of a school bus driver who was caught sexually assaulting 4 special needs students
- The Gilman School is the latest alleged Maryland school abuse report facing a crisis after a teacher was charged with sexual abuse and rape of a student.
All teachers, coaches, and other school officials responsible for the recent spates of Maryland school abuse must be held accountable for their behavior.
It’s tragic that the children of Maryland schools have been subjected to such appalling behavior, and it’s imperative that steps are taken to ensure that it never happens again.
Howard County School Abuse
A Howard County teacher, 44-year-old Matthew Barth, is facing charges for the alleged sexual abuse of a 15-year-old student at Maryland’s Mt. Hebron High School.
Detectives believe that the teacher abused the student on multiple occasions inside the school for four months after reviewing electronic records which showed that there was inappropriate contact between the teacher and the victim.
Also, a jury convicted a former Maryland School for the Deaf aide of sexually abusing two of seven middle-school girls who said he had touched their breasts or buttocks over a three-year period at the school’s Columbia campus.
The Howard County jury cleared 38-year-old Clarence Taylor III of one count of child sexual abuse but was unable to reach a verdict on four other counts.
Schools must ensure that they have adequate training, policies, and procedures in place to ensure the safety and security of their students.
